As cases drop and recovery builds, Latin Americans look forward to the holidays

New research from Echo-MR shows increased demand for domestic pleasure travel and entertainment

We asked 300 members of our Latin American Community what they were looking forward to this holiday season. Their answer was … a nice, calm, happy, healthy, relaxing, recharging, reflective rest with their families and friends.

As community member in Mexico told us, “I want to take a break from all of the screen time. Rest my mind and take deep breaths while spending time with my family.”

Echo’s third wave of research shows that significantly more Latin American consumers are also eager to get back out shopping in malls and department stores and enjoy concerts, movies, and restaurants. Pent-up demand for domestic pleasure travel - especially in Mexico and Brazil - has pushed intent to take more road trips, domestic flights, hotel stays, and vacation rentals significantly higher. Business travel, however, appears to still be on hold.

The massive increase in financial and digital inclusion during the pandemic in Latin America continues to fuel the booming e-commerce market. Disruptors – those consumers who are buying over 70% of their regular purchases online – now represent 33% of online adults. Many experts in the region point out that digital commerce is close to being a level playing field - where customer experience and shopper engagement is driving brand perception and market share. UX and CX are becoming increasingly important.
